Gibraltar The Untold Story

This documentary will be the untold story of the evacuation of the entire civilian population of Gibraltar in the summer of 1940. One of the measures taken to strengthen the position of the British forces at Gibraltar was the evacuation of the civillian population.

Some of the Gibraltarian families were initially evacuated to Morocco, but then had to be moved again because it was then under the control of the pro-German Vichy Government. Some of the evacuees were able to find refuge in Spain or other neighbouring countries if they had family members already living there. However, most of the Gibraltar evacuees were sent to Britain (mainly London), Madeira and Jamaica. Those who were sent to London had the further sufferance of the London Blitz of 1940.

It was not to be a short evacuation. Some of the Gibraltarians were not repatriated until 1951. We will use original footage and testimony from today’s survivors to capture this thrilling tale before it disappears from the world.

The Rose

We follow the ups and downs of the producers of Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre York for a whole year leading up to the opening night of their four play season. The casting, the building, the meetings with the council, the finance and the weather will all play their part in this very lively documentary about a company’s struggles and ambition to make it all work.

The Bard “would totally recognise it”, according to producer James Cundall.
The temporary theatre is built in a car park in 28 days to a circular design, similar to those erected on Bankside in Shakespeare’s day.
